Role Overview
This is a permanent opportunity for an experienced Finance & HR Officer to take day-to-day ownership of the finance function within a small, collaborative business.
The successful candidate will be a strong, hands-on bookkeeper with experience across payroll, VAT returns, reconciliations, credit control and monthly reporting. Working closely with the company’s external accountant, they will also provide HR and Health & Safety administration support and assist with wider office coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Take day-to-day ownership of the finance function, maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records.
- Manage bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, invoicing and credit control.
- Prepare monthly management reports and financial information to support business decision-making.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time.
- Process monthly payroll using Sage Payroll, including year-end requirements such as P60s and P11Ds.
- Work closely with the external accountant, providing financial information and supporting documentation as required.
- Support and improve finance processes, controls and reporting procedures.
- Manage general HR administration, including employee records, contracts and handbook updates.
- Liaise with external HR and Health & Safety consultants to review and maintain policies, procedures and documentation.
- Provide general Health & Safety administration support across the business.
- Support employee relations administration, including meeting arrangements and associated documentation.
- Provide cover for the Office Manager and assist with engineer planning and coordination, including travel and hotel bookings.
Skills & Experience
- Strong practical experience within bookkeeping, accounts or a similar finance role.
- Confident managing a broad range of day-to-day finance responsibilities independently.
- Experience preparing financial reports, VAT returns and management information.
- Practical experience of payroll processing, ideally using Sage Payroll.
- Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations, invoicing and credit control.
- Previous HR administration experience would be advantageous.
- Excellent numerical, organisational and communication skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Proactive, flexible and comfortable working across different areas of the business.
- Formal finance or HR qualifications are not essential, with strong practical experience being the key requirement.
Offering
- Salary circa £35,000, depending on experience.
- Permanent position based in Livingston.
- Working hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
- Predominantly office-based, with some flexibility available.
- 20 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays, increasing by one day per year up to 25 days.
