Job Description

Murray Recruitment have an opportunity for an Estimator to join their client based in West Lothian.

This role is crucial in supporting the growing business unit and you will be responsible for assisting and preparing and producing accurate tenders and proposals from the receipt of enquiries to tender settlement stage.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the estimating process to ensure timely and high-quality work that meets commercial and qualitative standards.
  • Plan and organise the work of the estimating department to consistently achieve objectives.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Provide estimating advice and commercial support to the bid team, divisional managers, and across the business.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the bid process and gain a competitive edge.
  • Manage subcontractor enquiries and liaise with the supply chain team.
  • Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor quotations to produce competitive costs.
  • Review supply chain performance and take necessary actions.
  • Identify and account for tender risks, reviewing lost tenders for improvement opportunities.
  • Utilise data spreadsheets and databases effectively to gather accurate cost estimates.
  • Measure and prepare accurate quantities from tender documents to maximize competitiveness.
  • Implement a consistent internal tender settlement process that aligns with business strategy.
  • Liaise regularly with the Head of Bid Management for updates and reviews.
  • Develop and maintain pricing masters to analyse estimating information trends.
  • Collaborate closely with senior management and commercial teams on workload, procedures, and targets.
  • Support post-project commercial reviews and reconciliations.
  • Take responsibility for tender prices and price build-up across all work streams.
  • Support business development and bid teams across divisions.
  • Collaborate closely with operational teams to ensure business-led approaches.

Experience

  • Experience of estimating for a main contractor in the construction industry.
  • Able to work independently and manage workload under pressure.
  • Experience coordinating with others and managing people.
  • Familiarity with schedules of rates, specifications, drawings, bills of quantities, cost value reconciliation, and frameworks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Packages – Excel, Word.
  • HNC/HND in a construction-related subject (desirable).
  • Excellent communication, time management, and negotiation skills.
  • High levels of accuracy and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in Energy Services/Social Housing sectors or maintenance contracts.
